canon sd series dont have manual options, good or bad?

i got an answer that sd series from canon dont have manual operartions,it only have automatic operations.in case of 'a' series there is both..,if this feature is not available does it make ne difference in quality and features,i mean is it a aadvantage to have manual operations too for 1st time buyer..and how is the 'ixus' series..does this also lack manual operation..if no then is it better than 'a' series.

  1. what you could do is automatic! ( just taking a shout on the question )
  2. In general it is better to have more of automatic features in Compact, point & shoot cameras. We will not be finding time to make all the adjustments on the go. If you are a professional photographer, go for a digital SLR.
  3. I believe the "ixus" series is the same as the "SD" series. "SD" is used in the US and "ixus" is used ex-US. We have the SD600 and love it for a point and shoot. I also have a digital rebel. I like the "SD" series over the "A" series because the SD's have rechargeable Li-ion battery whereas the "A" series uses AA batteries. The manual features on the "A" series are watered down. You can't manual focus, the shutter speed and aperture are extremely limited vs. a dSLR and you are stuck with a slightly bulkier (vs. the SD) and heavier (due to AA batteries) camera and can't change lenses. I would only purchase the "A" series if I couldn't afford the "SD" series. The manual features aren't enough motivation.
  4. If ur looking into gettin a canon camera that offers maunal options why nt go for the S3 IS it offers more flexibity. The Ixus series are just a "pretty face" camera. Most pns are made to be easy and everything are auto as most consumers wants fuss-free and easy to use camera interface.
