Why does my canon SD 400 only record for 3 minutes?
My canon SD 400 will only record video for 3 minutes. I have a 2gb card, and it says it has 12' 12" of recording time. Why is it shutting off at 3 minutes? its not battery life, I have a fully charged battery. Please help!

- Within the menu, there may be a feature that allows you to preselect the length of time the video will record. The 3 minute setting may be the cameras default setting. In most point and shoot cameras, there is no way to shut off the video recording once it has started other than shutting off the camera (doing that may lead to corrupted images). The ability to set the recording time is essential to getting the results you are attempting to achieve.
- Make sure that you are NOT in the "Compact" movie mode, as this has a 3 minute limit that you can not change. Select the "Standard" mode. You should also be able to stop your video shoot just by fully depressing the shutter button again. You may also have a problem with a slow card. If you do not have a sufficiently high speed card, your shooting buffer will fill up totally before the camera can save the video to the card and it will shut down. You need a high speed card, like 60X or 80X to get the maximum out of your videos.
- change your video size and speed
