Canon Download: PowerShot SD 600?
Hi guys! Alright I have a Canon PowerShot SD 600, I've taken pictures but when I tried to upload them my computer doesn't read them. I know I'm supposed to use the CD software that came in the box but it is lost somewhere and I can't seem to find. I've been online to the canon troubleshoot page but I can't seem to download the right software for my computer. This has been driving me crazy. If anyone could help me download the right software I would greatly appreciate it. You might have to use simple computer jargen because i have no idea what half of this stuff means. Oh and right now I'm using Windows XP. Thanks in advance! thanks both for your help, problem solved!

- From what I can see on canons web site the cd is the same cd I got with my XTi. If this is true then any digital solutions cd from any Canon camera should work. I have not tried this so its a gamble, but at this point you dont have much to lose. All downloads on Canons site are just updates to this software. If that doesnt work Picasa should be able to upload your pics from your camera. Its free or I wouldnt suggest something I wouldnt know if it works. You should be able to see your camera in "my computer" off of your start menu. Double click or right click. Finding it sometimes is the hard part. If it doesnt appear right away right click an empty spot of "my computer" and click refresh. Make sure that you have the camera on. If your problem is your computer wont read the raw files (the files your camera has, CR2 or CRF) then you will need a converter > CR2 to jpeg or something. If your camera puts out jpegs or jpg you wont need a converter. Picasa will convert raw files too.
- If you can't work this out by downloading new software, consider buying a card reader instead. This will work with any camera you buy in the future, as well. If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time. First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card. If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor. You can buy various kinds of card readers to accomodate many different memory cards pretty much anywhere that they sell digital cameras. Even WalMart has decent card readers by the major manufacturers.
- this is not an answer for you, but it is for Mac users with an SD 600. GraphicConverter: http://www.lemkesoft.com/ will find the PowerShot SD 600 and present a helpful download interface automatically.
