Canon SD 1000 or A640 Which is better? Help!!?
I just purchased the SD 1000 at bestbuy, but I'm wondering if the A640 is better because it has 10 MP which the SD 1000 has 7.1. Can anyone help me on the pros and cons thanks!

- A640 has not only a higher pixel count, it has a larger sensor. In addition it has a 4x optical zoom lens and you can adjust the cameras mode to either aperture or shutter priority. SD1000 uses the best battery made for digital cameras at this time, has one stop higher ISO and a larger LCD screen. Both have optical viewfinder's (this allows you to turn off the LCD and lengthen the batteries life)
- I think the SD1000 should be perfectly ok...7.1MP is more than enough for most people. It features the latest Digic III processor and has a lovely high res. 2.5" LCD (230,000 pixels). It's only real main cons are...it does not have full manual controls and it uses a small rechargeable lithium battery which will provide approx. 210 shots, so you need to make sure you recharge the battery often. Yes, the A640 has 10MP (which might give it a slight advantage when using high ISO because of it's larger sensor), and it has full manual controls and the vari-angle (flip out & twist) LCD. And it uses AA size batteries. These are all pros, of course. The only real con that I see..is it's low res. LCD (115,000 pixels). If you need a camera with full manual controls (aperture & shutter priority) and you need to make very large prints or you need the extra megapixels for serious photo cropping, then the A640 might have been the better option. But, if you prefer your camera to be more point & shoot and ultra compact in size, featuring the latest processor, then the SD1000 is a very good choice. Just make sure you are using a decent high speed SD card (Sandisk Extreme III is fast, reliable with a lifetime warranty). 1-2GB is a good starting size. I wouldn't worry about it at all...just get out there and start shooting. I'm sure you will love it.
- Well, you have the SD1000, so what do you think of it? The answers above cover all the bases as far as I'm concerned, including Petra's remark that the SD1000 might be better for what YOU want a camera to do. For image quality alone, I like the A640 better. For convenience with a still-acceptable image, the SD1000 is fine.
- both are nice.
- canon 1000 my suggestion go to yahoo shopping digital cameras digital camera GUIDE be sure to check titles on the left side the guide should answer your questions
- fphoto, petra and Sam said it all. Frankly- the camera you have with you is the best one. Given the diminutive size of the SD series- that could be the one for you. The A640 will be larger and have some more manual controls if that is something that you'd like. there is no 'best' camera. there is only a best camera *for you*.
