  1. I think I'd go with th e canon. I've heard that the cybershots have some issues with functions and are more complex to use.
  2. Overall, I'd say the Canon SD870 IS. Both have small, 1/2.5 inch sensor, so neither camera is going to perform greatly in low light situations. But the Sony T200, while indeed more compact and with a longer zoom, uses folded optics (so that the lenses don't move outside of the camera) which, in almost every instance of it I've seen, yields worse optical quality (less overall and edge sharpness, more pronounced chromatic aberrations and more barrel distortion). Not that the Canon SD870 is much better than that, since most recent Canons in the Elph line (and particularly those with a 28 mm. wide angle, such as the SD800 and SD870) also suffer from higher than desirable edge blurriness, chromatic aberrations and barrel distortion. If it absolutely has to be a Canon Elph, check instead the SD850 IS (or, if you can afford it, the SD950 IS); if not, Panasonic has a varied FX line with way better optical quality, with the FX100 topping the list for overall image quality (optical and CCD).
