Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH video size?

My Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH only seems to save videos many gigabytes in size. How do I lower it?

  1. Change to a lower resolution. You also have 320 (320x240) and 160 (160x120) modes that will cut the file size tremendously. See page 42 in your advanced manual.
  2. The highest video resolution is 640x480 at 30 fps. It's the standard default setting of the camera and it consumes MB, rather than GB (8 minutes of video=1GB). You can lower the size of your video to 320x240 at 30 fps. I wouldn't advise that you shoot in 15fps, unless you don't mind very jerky video. If I were you, I would continue to shoot video at the highest quality/resolution...and, either limit the length of the video you shoot or buy a much larger SD card or cards. These cards are very cheap, so one or two 2GB cards would be the better option. Your Advanced User guide will show you how to change the size if that's what you really want. Look in the Index...under Movie (shooting).
