Canon Cameras

I just bought a back up charger for my Canon SD600 Elph to take traveling in Europe. Will it work?

240 The charge says it charges on 110 to 240 V and delivers 3.4 to 7.2 (I think) V. The battery says 3.4 V and doesn't say anything about being able to be charged on a higher voltage. I sort of assume that the charger charges 3.4 V at 110power and 7.2 V on 240. Is this right? Can I get away just using an adaptor plug for the 240 plug or do I have to have a converter too? Thanks, anyone who might know. Marti C

  1. One item you must check is the cycle rate. American electric appliances use a 115 to 120 vac @ 60 cycle current, and I don't think 60 cycle is available in Europe, therefor you might need some sort of converter. This site should provide the information you seek; http://www.german-way.com/electric.html
  2. If the charger is designed specifically for the battery in the camera, it should be OK, _but_ rechargeable batteries, particularly Li and NiMh, are quickly damaged by overcharging. Many new chargers automatically sense the line voltage and regulate the output; some even have sensors to detect battery temperature. Check the instructions: o Is it designed for the correct battery type? o Does it have automatic voltage-switching or manual? Don't assume it will work: a burst battery can be a real pain.
  3. It will work using the European voltages. What you will need is a little set of conversion plugs that will go between your chargers US plug and the outlet in what ever country you are visiting(less than $20). No voltage converter will be necessary (your charger is marked with the voltages it will work with).
  4. I doubt very much if you need a converter. You should be just able to use an adapter plug. But, check the link below, which has information that may be helpful...
