Which Canon ELPH for serious photography?
Public Comments
- None of them Serious photography requires at a minimum an adjustable camera. One that can be used in a completely manual mode using the light meter to decide which shutter speed or aperture to use. That said, the least expensive camera you can use for serious photography would be a $200 used 35mm Nikon or Canon SLR with lens. The next step would be to learn how to expose, compose, develop and print photographs. As you learn how to control the camera and get the shots you want without having to "fix" things in the darkroom, the closer you will be to being a serious photographer. As you become more at home adjusting the camera to get what you want, you can think about buying a DSLR body that matches the lenses you have for your 35mm SLR.
- According to Ken Rockwell the camera does not matter and has no influence on image quality. "The quality of a lens or camera has almost nothing do with the quality of images it can be used to produce." http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm Personally I have DSLRs and an ever growing lens collection for serious photography
- all new canon elph serie digital cameras are great for a beginner photographer: canon sd890, canon sd790, canon sd770
- I absolutely agree with Fhotoace. Even the best Canon Elph camera (which would arguably be the SD950 IS -unless you absolutely want wider 28 mm. angle, in which case the SD870 IS would be a decent, if somewhat poorer, alternative-) still has no manual exposure control, no manual focusing, no RAW mode, no advanced shooting modes, no flash hotshoe...
