Canon SD 750 battery not charging. What can I do to fix it?

About ten months ago I purchased a Canon SD 750. About a month ago I went to charge the battery and saw that it was going strait from no charge to fully charged. On Canon's website the only option to fix the problem is bringing the camera in for repair. I don't have time before my impending vacation to send the camera to a repair center and wait for it to return. Should I replace the battery, charger, or both?

  1. You can buy both the battery and the charger individually. First figure out if it's the battery or the charger. One idea is to go to a store such as Ritz Camera or Circuit City and try your battery in one of their SD750's. I'm thinking a camera store will be willing to help and open the box. For CC, the canons aren't sealed so you might be able to talk them into it. If you have any charge at all, use it until it's drained and try charging it again. Shouldn't matter on lithium batteries but you never know. Once you know, sources for new chargers include, the canon website, I think the Ritz catalog, and sometimes Ebay. Another is to ask on freecycle or craigslist, if someone is willing to loan one to you. Then one more option, but shhhh. The canon boxes aren't sealed so at a store that allows returns, buy one, use the charger but leave everything else as is. Return it afterward and buy what you need - or meanwhile have Canon send you the replacement. Even a 15% restocking fee such as at Best Buy might be worth it. Make sure if Canon asks for the whole camera and it's just the charger that you talk to managers until you only have to send in the charger. That's just too ridiculous. Good luck!
  2. It's most likely the battery. Recommend a replacement: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=SD750+nb-4l&rs=502394&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A502394%2Ck%3ASD750+nb-4l&sort=price
  3. Get a pencil eraser and rub the metal contacts on the battery and the charger. If that doesn't work you can try rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. If that doesn't work I'd say your problem could be your battery or charger. If you want to get your battery tested, bring it down to any electronics store which sells cameras and they can do that for you, maybe even test your charger. If your camera is less than a year old your charger is still under the warranty so I'd call Canon at 1-800-828-4040 M-F 8AM-Midnight EST to get that repaired/replaced. Good Luck!
