I have a Canon A85 digital camera that need repair. Is it worth repairing?
The camera people said the "base price" to even think about fixing it would be $170. They also said the camera is worth about $100 (it was bought in 2004). It takes blurry pictures and the lens cover will not close. What do I do with a broken digital camera that I hate to get rid of? Also, I have never had good luck with Canons. Any suggestions on brands and what to do with a fixer digital camera?

- Most (if not all) of point and shoot cameras are quite fragile. Unless you treat them like an eggshell, they don't last too long. I did not imply that you dropped it, but they need to be in a padded case, and not in a backpack, or a purse so it is not bumped and tossed around. It's better to just get rid of it (note the battery & the memory card can be reused). So try to get another that can use those things.
- absolutely not, if you are going to pay 170 dollars to fix a four year old camera, it is not worth it. i would recommend getting the canon sd 1000, it costs about 170 dollars and is a much better camera than the A85, i've been working with electronics for a long time now, the sd1000 is a nice camera, and if you're gonna pay 170 dollars regardless, i would recommend you but that one. there are many other nice cameras but i am trying to stay in the 170 dollar range. but i do suggest you buy the canon brand, they are pretty fantastic cameras with good reliability. this one lasted you four years, that is pretty long.
