Canon Cameras

Found Three Canon Digital Cameras I like, . Which to choose? S5 IS, Powershot G9, Sx100 IS?

I am a beginning photographer. Right now I do mostly point and shoot, but I'd like to do more quality photography, especially of people, nature, and animals. I really like the Canons, especially the S5 IS, the Powershot G9, and the SX100 IS. Can anyone tell me which to choose and why? I would also appreciate real pros and cons for any or all of these. Price isn't a huge issue. I just want one I can grow with as a photographer and be pleased with.

  1. the G9 is the best one
  2. In my opinion, the only 2 to battle with are the G9 and the S5. I would choose the S5. Remember, this is all about you. First comes cost. To go from the S5 to the G9, you will spend approx. $130 more. This came right from Circuitcity. Now, what will you gain…things like more megapixels, the ability to shoot RAW, I believe I even read the ability to use an ISO of 3200…etc - You really need to go to Canon’s web site, and do a side by side comparison. If most of the gains, really don’t mean anything to you, then why bother spending more money. Now let’s look at some of the good things with the S5 that will be useful for an everyday photographer. Twice the optical zoom over the G9, faster shutter speed, super macro feature…etc – the things you really need. Again, I can’t stress enough to do a side by side comparison. A 4 megapixel jump won’t amount to anything, if you can honestly say you’re not going to print posters. Again this is only an opinion. When you do the side by side comparison, open up internet explorer twice. Done size the pages, and place them beside each other. Grab a piece of paper, and as you go down the list, see for yourself the pros and cons. See what really matters to you. I think you’ll see you lose too many common photo elements by not going with the S5, that most people look for in a point and shoot camera. Take your time, and have fun. Regardless of which camera you choose, I wish you the best! Before you decide, please also look at the Olympus SP-560 UZ - it's in the same price range, with alot of features
  3. Recommend looking at and considering one more on your list, the A650 IS. The A650 IS is basically a G9 at a much nicer price. AND with a vari-angle LCD. The vari-angle LCD comes in very handy in getting those hard-to-get shots. My second choice out of the ones listed would be the SX100.
