How can I see what I am shooting on the LCD when using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT?
Ok, this is probably a dumb question, but if I am shooting with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and I don't want to use the viewfinder[?] (sorry if my terminology is wrong), the thing you look through to shoot, and I would rather see what I am shooting on the LCD screen, how could I go about doing this?

- You cannot ... the Canon Rebel XT is NOT a P&S camera that forces you to hold the camera at arm's length to compose your shots, thus adding all manner of camera movement. Using the viewfinder is the only way to provide a steady camera when shooting handheld. You use your face, one hand on the lens and the other on the camera to assure the best possible stability when not attached to a tripod. Use the viewfinder for composing and using the light meter and other important things necessary to produce perfect images. There are only two Canon cameras with this "live view" feature, but with limited features (no auto-focus while in this mode for instance). They are the Canon 40D and Canon 1Ds Mark III.
- Typically with SLR's (like your Rebel XT), you can only compose pictures with the viewfinder. The only exceptions are those that have a special "Live View" feature, like the Olympus E-330 EVOLT. However, you can buy an adaptor which allows you to compose with an LCD screen anyway: http://www.zigview.co.uk/S2.htm It's a second LCD screen that attaches to your viewfinder. Professionals use this for shooting at odd angles, but I suppose you could just use it for comfort's sake.
- You're asking your camera for a feature it doesn't have. If you truly want the liveview feature, you'll need buy a newer dslr body (I'll assume you have a collection of Canon lenses) so the Canon 40d is one of your choices. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos40d/ Another idea is to try this expensive, but intereresting device. http://www.adi-digital.com/Zigview/Zigview_B/Zigview_B.htm Liveview is the new "gimmick of the month" for DSLR's. Among professionals and semi-pros in the field, you won't find any using liveview in sports or photojournalism.
- On Canon Digital Rebel XT you can't use the viewfinder to take a picture ... you have to use the optical viewfinder. Only much newer digital SLR from few brands offer live LCD.
- Can't do it. ;( V
- No way....tuff
