Canon Cameras

What's a good camera to upgrade to from a Canon EOS 3000?

I would really like a digital camera to replace my EOS 3000, but don;t want to spend a fortune again - Are there any digital cameras that use the same lens as the EOS 3000? Should I just put the SLR aside and buy an ordinary digital camera? I'm by no means a professional since we mainly use the current camera for family snaps and the odd artistic shot. Grateful for any info thanks.

  1. The Canon 400D. There is one on ebay at the moment for £320 brand new with a 3 year g/tee. Really great camera, 10 megapixel. Check it out.
  2. If you get the Canon 400D, you should be able to use all your existing lenses. Since the sensor in 400D is smaller than the 35mm film, your old lenses will have a 1.6x multiplication factor. For example, a 28mm lens will effectively become 45mm when using with 400D. In addition, old EZ series external flashes are not compatible with 400D. It will fire when you mount it on 400D but it becomes a manual flash as E-TTL II will not work. You need to use the EX series flashes.
  3. Do you like using an SLR? if so then the EOS400 is the most directly compatable upgrade in terms of features and if you want to use yourlenses with a digital DSLR (if you have only got the 28-80 or 35-80 that came with it then this isn't a huge point as most DSLRS come with equivalent lenses for little more) What size of prints do you get? If less than A3 then really any six megapixel camera with a decent lens will do. If you want something with a good everyday zoom range then look at the Ricoh Capilio range. Easy to use, compact, good images. Why struggle with an SLR if you aren;t that into it?
  4. It sounds to me as if a compact camera will suit you needs. The well known brands, Canon Nikon Sony are all so good now that I get v.good quality A3 prints from mine and only use my DSLR (canon D400) for special shoots with special lenses. You might try the Canon S5 IS, it is an excellent camera
