Canon Cameras

how can I count how many shutter releases I did on a canon eos?

I put my canon eos on e bay and I have been asked several times how many shutter releases I did on my camera. I don't know where this information is in the camera menu, neither where is the counter

  1. try doing a google search for it.
  2. If you used a brand new compact flash card when you got the camera, never used another card and never put that memory card in another camera, the picture number (i.e. IMG_4658.jpg) should be fairly accurate as to how many pictures were taken. If at some point you used another card, didn't use a completely new card when you got the camera, switched cards etc..., the count may be way off. In that case there is no way of checking how many pictures were taken from what I know. If you have a Canon 300D (Digital Rebel), you can try the link below. I've never tried it, so I don't if it works, and if it might work with other Digital Canon EOS cameras.
  3. Just say you don't know. I don't understand why they care.
  4. I own both Canon film and digital bodies, and I've never seen anything referring to a counter that tracks how many times you've released the shutter. I assume they're concerned since the shutter/mirror mechanism is prone to wear out, but they're meant to last a long time. I guess you could estimate how many shots you've taken, but it would be just an estimate, especially if you've had the camera for a while. I guess Lloyd's link has a method that will work if you've only used all your memory cards in one camera. It won't work for a film body, and if you rotate your cards like I do, it won't help much either.
