Canon Cameras

How could I possibly protect my Canon EOS 40D DSLR camera from water splash while on a boat trip?

I am planning to spend my holidays in the Philippines and spend some time island hopping in Palawan (Honda Bay Island). They said the boat ride usually takes more than an hour and could be sometimes rough. I was just wondering If there are waterproof camera bags I could buy to protect my camera in case of a water splash, or worst camera falling into the water (hopefully shallow water). Could you suggest anything, please.

  1. I would use a number of sealable plastic bags. Camera bags tend to be designed to resist rain
  2. The odd splash: don't worry about it. Waves soaking camera: put a plastic bag over it. Dropping camera in the water, shallow or otherwise: it's toast. HTH V
  3. For the ultimate in protection look at the housings sold by ikelite.com or ewamarine.com or bonicadive.com or leisurepro.com or scuba.com. For splash protection, check at cameraarmor.com and bonicadive.com.
  4. The bags I use from Tamrac are water proof but, if you have invested some big bucks into your camera the best is a hard case from Pelican. Pelican cases are lockable, airline approved and floats (if the boat sinks), I use mine on open water, a brite yellow one (something I'll find in the dark).
