Best point and shoot cameras from Canon, Sony, or Nikon on the market?

I'm looking for a point and shoot digital camera that has 10MP or more for around $320 or under. I've been looking at some Nikon cameras and found the Coolpix s600. Do Canon or Sony have cameras better than this one for around the same price? I've tried looking, but I'm camera illiterate so I don't know what's good for my money. Thank you for doing some research for me. So the question is, which cameras that are point and shoot are best on the market right now? For around $300 and hopefully having at least 10MP. Thank you very much. One thing does matter to me actually, and that is shutter lag. I don't want it to take too long to take a picture.

1. The best camera about shutter lag is the Canon G9. it is 12 MP and pretty much amazing... but it usually runs about $500. You can always check out hte older model of the camera... I don'tknow much about it though, it is called the Canon G7 Canon has great point and shoot cameras.
