Could you possibly suggest proper wide-zoom lenses for a beginner digital Canon EOS photographer?

I am a beginner in the field of digital photography and I need to buy a good wide angle or wide-zoom angle lens with the following specifications: - Dedicated for Canon EOS Rebel Xti (400D). - Less than ($400 US). - The minimum focal length must be equal to or less than (17mm). If you will suggest any other entry level wide lenses, I will be so thankful for your help.

  2. Canon 17mm or wider for under $400.00? It ain't gonna happen. If you are lucky, you may just find a 17-40mm 4.0 L lens used in the upper $400s or you may find a used 15mm 2.8 fisheye lens for somewhere in the $400. But brand new, there are no lenses as wide as 17mm for under $550.00 and that will get you the 17-85mm 3.5-5.6 EFS IS lens. You might find that one used for close to $400.00. The kit lens 18-55mm 3.5/5.6 is your best bet for under $400.00. I've seen then used for as low as $30.00 but remember, you get what you pay for. Happy hunting......TRhe 10-22mm EFS is a good bet, but you ain't gonna find that under $500.00 used
  3. Look for the Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle SP AF 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical IF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS at B&H Photo for $299. 2 users called it "a bit soft wide open," though. Or the Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 17-35mm f/2.8-4.0 EX DG Aspherical HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS on B&H Photo for $479. There is only 1 user review, but the guy liked it.
  4. Go to bhphoto.com and click on lenses. Click on the selection for the canon EOS mount. Now sort by price, highest first. Move down to $400 and start looking. If you see something just a bit out of budget, check ebay for used lenses.
