Why are Canon cameras better for action and movement?
I asked this question before and many people told me there is no difference between Canon and Nikon but anytime I look in the newspaper and there are pictures where the photographer happens to fall into the picture, they are holding Canon cameras. I have never seen Nikon cameras. What is Canon's specialty and what is Nikon's specialty?

- There is no real specialty. Both camera systems are great. I have seen both companies cameras used in all sports, outdoor nature shots. Some companies that hire on a photographer(newspaper/magazine/society) might buy a bulk load of equipment and then anything that you take for them while working is done on their equipment. Some places might get a better deal with Canon, others Nikon.
- They really are not. The Nikon D2h is the premier camera designed and built for action photography. To know why so many photographers are shooting Canon's? You have to go back to the early 80's when Canon launched a huge effort to put Canon cameras into the hands of professional photographers. At that point Nikon had the professional market. Many of the heavy shooters in the major markets were given complete Canon systems to "try out" and then later were told just to keep them. As Canon improved their product many "new" photographers chose Canon over Nikon because they had a choice and during that period of time, Canon were frankly less costly. Twenty plus years have gone by and as you can tell, Canon has a much more aggressive ad campaign than Nikon. Why? I don't know. I have had Nikon's since the early 1970's and they have never failed when shooting on assignment. As far as I know, Nikon is the only DSLR that allows the photographer to embed his/her copyright on each image. That could be a reason most of the staffers use Canon products (who owns the copyright is clear under the law, but people can sign away those rights to have a job if they choose). Nikon makes the only cameras (so far) that have the Image Authentication feature and finally Nikon's have a Commander Mode for using external remote flash units. BOTH cameras are professional grade. There is one Canon DSLR made specifically for use in astrophotography and Nikon has one specifically for action (sports etc). Aside from some custom IR retrofits available for certain models of Nikon and Canon, Nikon’s and Canon’s have no specialties except for providing professional level images in the hands of professional photographers.
- It's not the camera brand, it's the shutter speed that captures the action. It also helps if the photographer knows when to push the button.
- trust me, I have been at this for some time. If you know what you are doing, it does not make a difference what camera you use. One cameras witht he same features, there will not be a noticeable difference, depending on how your brain works. I have Canons (old ones), Pentax (not quite so old), old Olympus (4 of them), a really old Yashica twin lens, and a 67 that was made in about 1975. With the SLR, you could nto tell the difference from one to another.
