Canon Cameras

How long will the Canon eos line last for?

I want to get lens for my 450D, but I'm scared that they will discontinue the line? Will the eos line last like 10 or more years?

  1. What makes you think they'll discontinue the line? Canon is one of the top photography manufacturers. They'll be around for a long time.
  2. Why would they discontinue the line? They just added the 50d, and are going to bring out the 5d Mark II, Trust me, i don't think the canon EOS line is going to be discontinued anytime soon, Too many photographers with heavy wallets support them. If they failed, we'd have to go back to Nikon-- Ughh
  3. It is highly doubtful that Canon will discontinue their EOS line, they are constantly upgrading and adding new cameras and lenses to their very successful line of EOS cameras. I've been using Canon EOS cameras for years, first film and now digital, and I expect to continue for many years even decades to come.
  4. It's possible, but not probable. Hey Nat I gave you a thumbs down for your remark about Nikon. You think by switching from a Nikon to a Canon makes you a better photographer? Well think again.
  5. The Canon lens mount will be around for longer than you need to worry about, but the APS-C sensor (used on the Rebel XTi, XSi, 40D and 50D will not, within a few years, all digital SLRs will probably be full frame sensors (the same size as 35mm film). So, if you want to make your investment last a long time, get lenses that work on both APS-C and full frame cameras. All Canon lenses that use the EF label fill that need, while the EF-S lenses don't. With Sigma, you want to get the DG lenses, not the DC, and so on. I googled an article for you below...
  6. Who knows? ... they dumped their old line after less than ten years (I eventually sold my beautiful F-1's). The EOS full frame (35 mm and digital) cameras not being able to use EF-S lenses is a big problem, so look for something to happen there, either a lens redesign or new body design. Nikon's approach allows both APS-C and full frame cameras to use any Nikon lens made since 1959, except for a few old fisheye lenses on all DSLR's but the D40(x) or D60 ... and there are 26 AF-S lenses available for those ... no problem
