Canon Cameras

Is the Canon A570IS digital camera the best choice in the $200 price range?

A related question is: Are there any serious negatives that would another make or model more desirable.

  1. According to Website dpreview.com Beach Camera is selling the following model for $189 and I see nothing wrong with it. The Canon PowerShot A630. 4X optical zoom, 8 megapixels, better than average on AA rechargeable batteries, and takes an excellent 8X10 when enlarged. Also has manual controls. I know nothing about the Canon A570IS.
  2. Yes, I think the A570 IS would make an excellent camera choice, especially at a budget price. It includes an optical image stabilizer and full manual controls which is a big plus...not to mention the excellent image quality. The only slight negative that I can see is...it has a low resolution LCD, but you can live with it, though. I recommend you buy a high speed SD card for fast camera performance and shooting high quality movies (Sandisk Extreme III is super fast). check out the reviews below...
  3. I agree with both above me. The A630 is certainly worth considering for the same money, but the A570-IS is attractive with image stabilization at that price. The A630 has a slight pixel advantage and it has the larger sensor (twice as big as the A570-IS) to take advantage of that. My brother loves his A630 and my son loves his A620, but neither one has image stabilzation. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_a570is% 2Ccanon_a630&show=all See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/511455669/ For a detailed, yet easy to understand explanation, see: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/image-stabilization.htm
