Canon EOS 30D or Nikon D80?

I have the option of getting the Connon EOS 30D or the Nikon D80. The Nikon comes with a free $600 lens however I'm not sure of the model and on the links below I don't know if the lens model is listed. I really like both of the cameras but I'm not sure on which one I like. The Nikon is the higher priced one, but lower mega pixels but with the great lens. And the Canon is the higher mega pixel but I don't think it comes with a different lens. I always thought that the higher the MP the better the image quality so when it comes to that part I get confused on which one I want. Which one would you recommend? 1. Actually in any camera of that class and sensor size, 6MP is enough and actually the Nikon has the highest megapixel count (Nikon D80 = 10mp and Canon 30D = 8mp) That said there are many more features that you may find important as you learn more about photography. Here is a link so you can either get the information you really need or get more confused ... Yikes! The best way to decide is to actually hold both cameras in your hands and see which fits you the best. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos30d%2Cnikon_d80&show=all
  2. It's more a choice between the brands more so than a choice between to cameras. You should look for trends in both brands and determine which do you like better. For example, Nikon has better ergonomics, better bodies. Canon has superior sensors, and in some cases, slightly better optics (but are pretty equal). Therefore, having said that, you should look more carefully at the brand then at the cameras. You should do more research to find which one suits you more. I should mention that you won't go wrong with either one, guaranteed. Both good cameras, good brands, good quality. Personally, I like the feel and quality of Nikon cameras. And you judge whether the slight superiority in sensors with worth the trade. You can't get it all, you weigh what matters to you more. Very personally, again, I'd take Nikon over Canon. But it is personal, and you can't go wrong with either one.
  3. As mentioned above you have the MP switched for the cameras but that is of little importance. I also agree you need to go to circuit city , best buy ,or local camers shop and hold both cameras and see how they feel. The next thing you need to ask yourself is what kind of shooting are you gonna be doing? The canon cameras have cmos sensors that are known for having better noise reduction at higher ISO's than the ccd sensors used by nikon and others. Nikon is a great camera and you can use any old nikon lens on any nikon camera produced today inlike canon or others. The d80 uses sd flash memory and the canon uses CF memory. The 30d shoots 5 fps and ranges up to 3200 iso the d80 shoots 3 fps and goes up to 1600 ISO The 30d would be more likely to be compared with the Nikon d200 than the d80. In my opinion the 30d is the better camera than the Nikon but I am a biased Canon user and 30D owner. You may also consider waiting for the 40d coming out later this month as another fine option.
  4. As stated above, the Nikon actually has higher resolution. I'm not sure where the "free $600 lens" comes in, as the 18-135mm retails for $485. In either case, the 18-135mm Nikon will give you a better range as the 28-135mm Canon won't give you a true wide angle. I'm a Nikon shooter, so I'm a bit biased. But I'm a Nikon shooter because I like the feel of the cameras and the placement of the controls. Also, I have a long line of Nikon lenses and cameras in my background, so a Nikon DSLR was a natural choice. Bottom line: which suits you best? Hold them both, work the controls, and peer through the viewfinder. Change lens and see how they feel and look to you. Cameras are like cars. Advise is nice, but the decision should be a personal one. Hope that helps.
  5. Nikon D80!!!! I'm gonna get one myself... sooon.... when $$$ is there......
  6. I an a Canon user/fan, I have been using them for about 30 years now and never experienced any troubles. About 2 months ago I got a Canon XTi with a Tamron 18-250 zoom and I love this outfit. The 30D is a great Digital and that was an option but for my first DSLR I pick the XTi over the Nikon D40x. Both are in the 10MP class and about the same price range. Try www.bhphotovideo.com Reviews, demos and great prices. I have been doing business with B&H for over 25 years now.
