  1. the rebel xt would be a great camara to start out with. i purchased one not to long ago and i love it. my pictures turn out great.
  2. can't go wrong with canon
  3. All the Canons are excellent choices. The Rebel is an excellent buy. As you step up, your looking for the finest of details improving, and you open up a little more manual control. For instance viewing through the view finder will go from 97% to 100%. Shutter speeds will open up from 1/4000 to 1/8000. The Rebel will do you just fine!
  4. I would also check out the Nikon D50, D70, D100 or D200 depending on what you are looking to get and spend. Nikon is every bit as good as Canon.
  5. If I had the choice I would get the 20D, probably the best bang for your buck. The XT is more for newbie level, but if you get better and go pro you will find yourself needing to upgrade. I would just get the Canon 20D or look at the Nikon D200. Both excellent cameras. Also dont buy the cheap kit lenses that come with the cameras, if you got the money buy a lens that has a F stop of 2.8 or lower, you will see much brighter photos. If you cant afford that, just buy a nice lens and avoid the kit lens. Hope this helps.
  6. The Canon Rebel XT is a great camera. It's the bottom rung in Canon's current digital SLR lineup. The full offering is: * 1DsMk2 ($7000) * 5D ($3000) * 30D (this replaced the 20D earlier this year) * Rebel XT (a.k.a. 350D) And then there are some discontinued models like the original digital Rebel (a.k.a. 300D). As you move up the ladder, the cameras obviously get more expensive. For the extra money you get more megapixels, more features and a better build quality. The 5D and the 1DsMk2 are also 'full frame'. These models are perfect for Canon photographers who have a huge investment in Canon lenses from the film days. You really can't go wrong with the Rebel XT as your first dSLR. My only complaints with it are the size (it's pretty small) and the build quality. If you're not committed to the Canon brand, go to a camera shop and compare the Rebel XT with a Nikon D50. The D50 is also a great entry level camera. And just like Canon, Nikon offers a fantastic upgrade path and stellar lenses. I just personally find that the D50 is better value for money. --- p.s. If your budget is big enough that you can afford the next model up, consider better lenses first! That's where the image quality comes from.
  7. Definitely a good camera to start with. Use any extra money to buy top of the range lenses. After all, a good camera with bad lenses is like taking a picture with a piece of paper stuck on the lens.... Good luck
